During your consultation, we will discuss any preparatory steps that may be necessary to facilitate the success of your procedure, but unlike other, more invasive treatments, your procedure preparation should be minimal.
SmartLipo is done under local anesthetic to minimize any possibility of discomfort. While most patients opt to stay awake under “twilight sedation,” where you are administered sedative medications, some patients opt to undergo general anesthesia. Once in the office, the laser liposuction fiber is inserted through a very small incision, and melts the fat while stimulating skin tightening. The excess fat is then gently suctioned out. It is an in-office procedure that typically lasts a few hours, depending on the number of areas to be treated and the size of each area. There are no stiches or surgical drains required. Once your nurse assists you into your compression garment and completes your post-operative monitoring, you are discharged home typically within thirty minutes after the procedure. You are required to have a designated driver to take you home.
