What is Broadband Light Therapy BBL™?

Skincare with Broadband Light Therapy (BBL) is an advanced rejuvenating skin therapy. BBL light therapy skin treatments are really popular nowadays, and mainly because they erase reds and browns in your skin and leave you with a more luminous complexion. BBL light therapy gives incredible results, but you must know that BBL isn’t a one-time treatment. There are also a few things patients need to know about BBL skin treatments before jumping into the newest skin craze.

It  is a modality of Intense Light Therapy that revitalizes the skin, diminishes the appearance of sun damage, birthmarks, bruises, facial spider veins, vascular lesions, redness from rosacea, and reduces other signs of aging. With BBL™, intense pulses of light work to remove dead skin cells and other skin imperfections such as hyperpigmentation while at the same time, tightening the connective tissues in the targeted areas to leave the skin healthy and younger looking.  BBL Light Therapy turns on genes to express collagen that normally turn off in our early to mid 30’s causing sagging and volume loss.  This is one of the most revolutionary treatments of our time to reverse the clock.

Benefits

BBL™ is an intense pulse light treatment similar to laser that diminishes and erases skin imperfections and aging conditions. It is often a preferred treatment because of the following benefits:

  • Can be used in many areas of the body
  • Fast treatment
  • Little to no discomfort
  • No downtime
  • Often combined with other skin treatments
  • Boosts Collagen Production and Volume
  • Safe and Effective
  • Instant Results

How Does Broadband Light Therapy BBL™ Work?

When getting BBL™ light therapy treatments, protective eyewear is placed over the eyes. A cooling gel is applied to the treatment area followed by a chilled applicator to deliver the light therapy. The wand directs short pulses of light energy to the targeted area of the skin’s surface. It targets red and brown discoloration in different areas of the body.  Sometimes, even bruises can be treated to make them dissipate faster such as after an injectable procedure. The result is diminishing or eliminating this discoloration to promote more youthful, radiant skin.  It treats many skin conditions and issues, including rosacea, sun spots, bruises, birthmarks, facial veins and other blemishes, to even out the skin’s tone and create a smoother, healthy complexion. A tremendous added benefit is the stimulation of collagen. Each treatment takes about 15-30 minutes depending on the extent of the area to be treated.

BBL light therapy isn’t an a-one-and-done treatment

Skincare specialists reiterate that the Broadband Light Therapy BBL isn’t a one-and-done treatment. For real and long-lasting results, a patient should undergo the procedure starting with a package of 4 BBL light therapy treatments and maintain the results by getting BBL a minimum of 2 times per annum from one among the expert providers.

Occasionally, there are those who are lucky enough to have beautiful results after only 1 BBL light therapy treatment, but this case is rare.

What can Broadband Light Therapy treat?

Skincare with BBL light therapy can effectively treat the concerns below with multiple sessions required:

  • Vascular Lesions (e.g., small blood vessels)
  • Pigmented Lesions (e.g., freckles, age spots)
  • Loose Skin
  • Uneven skin texture

The reason why one BBL light therapy treatment is rarely enough is that over time our skin accumulates pigment from the sun, hormones, environmental factors, scarring, etc… so it takes some sessions to deal with the layers of accumulated pigment. Since the patient may still expose his/her skin to those hazards after a Broadband Light Therapy skin treatment, the patient cannot avoid picking up a new pigment. Therefore, it is advisable to have at least a session per year to maintain the BBL light therapy skin result.

Preparation

The most important step in preparing for BBL™ is to avoid the sun or tanning lotions for two to four weeks prior to the treatment. As with any skin treatment, we recommend no smoking for a week prior to and following the treatment as it may negatively affect the results.

Broadband Light Therapy/BBL™ Recovery

Immediately following BBL™ light therapy treatment, there may be some temporary redness for the first couple of hours, which quickly resolves itself. For the first few weeks following each treatment, it is important to avoid harmful direct sun exposure that can stimulate the melanocytes.  Skin may experience some flaking once the unwanted pigment comes to the surface so by avoiding direct exposure, you can avoid any further skin discoloration. One visit results in fantastic changes to the skin, but typically several sessions purchased in a package and completed over a few months leads to the full, exceptional effects of BBL™ light therapy.

Downtime After A Broadband Light Therapy

Skincare with BBL light therapy has some downtime. However, this downtime differs from one patient to another. If the patient has gotten much redness and/or sun damage, the patient will see lots of pigment come to the surface after the first treatment. As the pigment leaves the patient’s skin, it usually looks like coffee grounds stuck on the face and these last for 3 to 5 days post-treatment.

There aren’t any restrictions on makeup use after the therapy, but depending on how much the patient’s skin reacts to the BBL, it might be difficult to cover for events less than a week after the treatment.
