What is QWO™?
QWO™ (collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes, Endo Aesthetics) is the first and only FDA-approved injectable for cellulite treatment in women. It’s primary ingredient is an enzyme that breaks down and remodels collagen, a key protein in the fibrous bands that create cellulite dimples. QWO™ is FDA-approved in adult women for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite dimples of the buttocks.
What causes cellulite?
You’re not alone! Over 90% of women suffer from Cellulite and it’s not due to Freshman 15, Menopause, or Quarantine 15. The main structural cause of cellulite in women is our connective tissue and how it is arranged under the skin – these connective bands are much different in women than in men. Women have connective tissue bands in our fat layer called “fibrous septae” that pull down or tether the skin’s surface, causing a tell-tale dimple. Fat around this dimple herniates over time, accentuating the indentation. This gender-unique fat/connective tissue architecture explains why women are disproportionately affected by cellulite compared to men!
How Does QWO™ work?
QWO™ specifically targets the structural cause of cellulite – the fibrous bands (or “septae”) that tether the skin down and cause an indentation in the skin. These fibrous bands are made up of collagen, andQWO™ contains an enzyme that breaks down that collagen. When the band of collagen dissolves, the tether is gone and the dimple is released. The result is a smoothing of the skin and a softening or elimination of cellulite dimples!
Who is a good candidate for QWO™?
When it comes to cellulite, there are very few women who are not affected by dents and dimples – cellulite affects approximately 90-95% of females past puberty! Cellulite has even been found to impact a woman’s overall sense of well-being.

Qwo will not be able to help wavy, textural changes in the buttocks that sometimes look like cellulite but are actually caused by skin laxity/looseness. What areas of the body can be treated with QWO™?
QWO™ is currently FDA-approved for cellulite dimples in the buttocks in women. It is also proving to be very effective at targeting “off-label” areas such as the thighs and “saddle-bags”. It may be possible that QWO™ will receive FDA-approval for areas outside of the buttocks region very soon!
What is QWO™ treatment like?
Your QWO™o treatment is short and simple with no surgery, no numbing, and no downtime! Here are the basic steps: Cellulite dimples are identified by your provider as you stand flexing and relaxing your muscles – this accentuates skin indentations. Then, the individual dimples are marked with a nonpermanent skin marker and cleansed with a sterile solution. Last but not least, each individual cellulite dimple is injected with a very small needle. You can return to normal activities right away!
Are Results from QWO™ Seen Immediately?
QWO™ is administered as a series of injections spaced three weeks apart with your final result apparent approximately 1-2 months after your final injection.
